MiFID Group Suggests New Industry Model

The Markets in Financial Instruments Directive, the new EU regulation for the financial services industry, will lead to a radical restructuring of the market data business, according to the latest meeting of the MiFID Joint Working Group on Sept. 16 in London.

MiFID, which is currently due to come into effect by April 2007, will require firms to publish prices for trades conducted off-exchange as firm quotes to market. It also mandates that "systematic internalizers," who match trades internally
