Basel Committee Points to Shortfall Drop Under Basel III

The Basel III capital adequacy regulation, in its first stages of a multi-year implementation to run through 2019, is already paying dividends, according to a statement from the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, a unit of the Bank For International Settlements and the architect of the Basel III rules.

Reporting the results of monitoring through June 2013, shortfalls in risk-based capital of large, internationally active banks decreased in one category despite rising in a few others
