No way around it: If you want to play in the high-frequency trading (HFT) space, there's a significant investment that has to be made. This is nothing new. But the new element being thrown into these decisions is that of how to handle big data-related issues.

While speaking on a panel at this year's North American Trading Architecture Summit, Antonio Hallak, CEO at Sibyl Trading, a proprietary trading shop focusing on options, said that his firm is currently experimenting with Micron Technology
