Patrick Birley joins Icap as CEO of the securities and derivatives exchange.

Birley is taking over for Seth Johnson, who will focus on running ICAP's fixed income electronic trading platform, BrokerTec. Johnson will be based in New York.

Since ISDX was bought by Icap in 2012, the firm has tightened the exchange admissions criteria and is hoping to become more attractive to investors.

Birley has worked for a number of exchanges including LCH Clearnet, NYSE Euronext and the London Stock Exchange.
