In the Chinese zodiac, January 23, 2012, marked the beginning of the year of the dragon. The East Asian country’s rocketing profile and emergence as a world superpower comes as traditional powerhouses such as Europe and the US are struggling, both economically and politically. Where the People’s Republic of China (PRC) has always lagged, however, is in capital markets, primarily due to the anti-capitalistic Maoist doctrine that still governs the nation’s every move, at least in name.
