Last September, George Batejan, global head of technology and operations at Janus Capital Group, went with CTO Dave Landy to Singapore to take inventory of the goings-on within Janus Capital’s Asia-based outfits.

On the night before he left to head back to the US, Batejan took some of the staff out to dinner. The research analysts told him they couldn't stay out too late, as they had a 3 a.m. local time call with their counterparts in Denver, where Janus is headquartered.
