Smith Barney Shifts To Digital Data Feeds; Ouster Of Up To 500 Vendor Terminals Likely Text

Smith Barney, Harris Upham & Co. has undertaken a firmwide reassessment of its market data services -- putting some 500 standalone data vendor terminals at risk of being replaced by digital data feeds. The evaluations come against the backdrop of the firm's ongoing quest for a new digital data distribution system to support some 800-plus trading, sales and corporate finance personnel.

Smith Barney officials didn't return calls seeking comment. But according to other sources close to the firm
