Chicago-based ticker plant vendor HyperFeed Technologies began 2006 with high hopes. With the industry's focus on low latency data, the vendor was planning a global expansion. Yet by year-end, HyperFeed had ceased trading and filed for bankruptcy protection.

The year began with the launch of an industry initiative to develop its HMDP data distribution platform and OCC data display application—based on the former TRS and Activ8 products licensed from Reuters after its acquisition of the ailing
