Merrill Lynch Enters Final Phase Of Brokerage System Rollout

Merrill Lynch & Co. has entered the last phase of the rollout of its massive 17,000-position retail brokerage system. The firm has begun downloading proprietary applications from its New York-based mainframe to branch servers.

Merrill's registered representatives -- dubbed "financial consultants" by the firm -- will use the system to support their sales activities in equities, fixed-income securities, options and commodities.

All Merrill's IBM PS/2 Model 50 broker workstations are in place at 460
