CQG Readies Mobile Data Service, Picks BlackBerrys
The mobile platform is currently in beta testing, with general launch expected in the coming weeks, and will initially be available on BlackBerry devices and compatible with mobile service providers worldwide, says Yuriy Shterk, vice president of product development at CQG. The vendor also plans to add support for the platform on other mobile devices in future, depending on client demand, Shterk adds.
Global Access
Users of the mobile platform will have access to real-time data from all the global exchanges and other trading venues to which CQG maintains connectivity, including NYSE Euronext, Nasdaq OMX, BM&F Bovespa, the Chicago Board Options Exchange, the London Stock Exchange, Deutsche Börse and the Tokyo Stock Exchange, as well as broker data services such as Tullett Prebon Information and Icap, sourced either via direct connections or via an unnamed, third-party data vendor.
At launch, data available on the mobile platform will provide Level 1 quote and trade data, the high, low and close prices and settlement data, as well as net price changes for all major asset classes, including futures, options, fixed income, equities and both exchange-traded and over-the-counter foreign exchange products. The data is streamed to mobile devices according to users' preferences for how often data is updated-for example, once every second or once per minute.
The mobile platform "allows users to be aware of what's happening in the market or to a specific instrument, without being attached to their computer or to their terminal," and then decide how to react to the information, whether by making a phone call or returning to their desktop to execute an order, Shterk says. Integrating the mobile product and desktop workstation ensures that CQG's desktop clients will not need to pay additional exchange fees to view the same data on mobile devices, he adds.
The data provided via the mobile service will also include economic releases from developed countries, including the US, UK and Germany, as well as the historic and estimated economic figures, sourced via elementized news datafeeds from Dow Jones Newswires and Need to Know News, and displayed on the mobile screen alongside data on exchange-traded instruments.
