DJ Picks Up MarketWatch


Dow Jones & Co. announced last week that it is buying MarketWatch, a provider of business news, financial information and analytical tools, for about $519 million (see On Balance, this issue).

Although MarketWatch has several initiatives aimed at financial services professionals, Dow Jones will use the company to target the mass market. "It allows us to do things we couldn't do with the Dow Jones or Wall Street Journal brand," says Gordon Crovitz, president of Dow Jones & Co.'s electronic pub
