VSS Integrates GPS Timing, Eyes PTP

Network monitoring technology provider VSS Monitoring is preparing to add GPS (Global Positioning System) timekeeping to its Distributed Traffic Capture Systems and network taps, to provide more precise timestamps, officials say.

The vendor will roll out GPS capabilities in the third quarter of this year, which will provide times accurate to within 50 nanoseconds, compared to the current Network Time Protocol, which can vary by 20 microseconds. GPS is more accurate because the time signal is
