Morningstar Unveils Revised Bonds Classification System

Chicago-based investment research and data provider Morningstar has rolled out a new sector classification system for fixed income funds, featuring six super-sectors, 17 primary sectors, and 72 secondary sectors, compared to the vendor’s previous system of four super-sectors and 13 sectors.

Officials say the new model provides a more detailed view of a fund’s strategy and investments, and addresses the needs of global investors by including sectors for world and emerging market bond funds.
