GAO Report Provides Lukewarm Support For Expanding Access To Treasury Prices

Financial information vendors got a Christmas present of sorts with the Dec. 21 release of the General Accounting Office's long-awaited study on access to government securities brokers' services. But the report was a mixed bag at best.

As expected (TST, Sept. 28), the GAO favors wider distribution of interdealer broker quotes, but said the risks of giving customers outside the primary dealer community the ability to trade at these prices outweigh the benefits.
