Nomura Upgrades Systems For N.Y. Proprietary Trading

In a bid to boost its trading operations globally, Nomura Securities International Inc. is gearing up its eight-month- old New York proprietary trading unit by enhancing technology and hiring big-name program traders. The Japanese securities firm is also setting up a West Coast think-tank to develop proprietary analytics that could be used by Nomura's traders both in the U.S. and in Japan.
