IPE Going Electronic by April 7

LONDON—The International Petroleum Exchange (IPE) dropped a bombshell last week when it announced that it will cease open outcry trading on the Brent and Gas Oil futures and options pits on April 7 and switch to electronic trading.

While the decision has upset IPE floor traders, the IPE may face another challenge in the automation of options trading, say observers. The IPE only opened up options to electronic trading this past Feb. 25. According to the IPE Web site, only two independent software
