The vendor achieved the speed increase by automating the most common queries performed by users and running them automatically in parallel for all columns of data selected by users. So, for example, if a trader selects a list of 100 stocks that make up an index and runs a specific query against one of those, Kdb+ will automatically run the same query on the other 99 stocks to produce comparable results, says Simon Garland, chief strategist at Kx.
