INSTINET CLEARED TO OPERATE IN CANADA

Reuters Instinet has been cleared to operate in Canada by the Ontario Securities Commission, which has effectively rescinded a 1989 order that prevented Instinet from trading Canadian stocks in the Canadian market place. Partly due to this ten-year history of restriction, the practical effect is moot for now, since Instinet does not have an electronic trading platform in Canada, though Instinet Canada says they expect one by the first quarter of 2000.
