ICE, MarketAxess moves set up potential race to create muni bond exchange, analyst says

Intercontinental Exchange's (ICE) acquisition of Standard & Poor's Securities Evaluations, the fixed-income evaluated pricing unit of S&P, and Credit Market Analysis (CMA), an over-the-counter markets data provider, announced March 1, could be the first step toward creating a US municipal bond exchange, according to Thomas Doe, president of Municipal Market Analytics, a Boston-based municipal bond industry advisory firm.

The acquisition will combine the S&P unit and CMA with Interactive Data's
