Canadian exchange operator TMX Group says it will contribute to the development of an online investment platform geared toward connecting profitable "impact" ventures with funds, investors, and service providers, which is being built by the Toronto-based Medical and Related Sciences (MaRS) Centre for Impact Investing as part of a larger initiative to leverage private capital in tackling social and environmental problems.

The platform, set to officially launch later in 2012 after approval from the Ontario Securities Commission, will help serve an impact investing market in Canada that is estimated to be $2 billion today, but could potentially balloon to $30 billion over the next 10 years, according to a report from the Canadian Task Force on Social Finance from 2010.

"MaRS is thrilled that TMX Group is a founding supporter in the MaRS Centre for Impact Investing. The support and expertise of a global exchange leader will be invaluable as the Centre strives to harness the momentum of the impact investing agenda to tackle Canada's social and environmental problems in new and innovative ways," says Ilse Treurnicht, CEO of MaRS.
