How Fast Is Fast Enough?

During the DWT 2007 panel discussion on the topic last Thursday, the conference hall was standing room only as attendees wanted to hear what representatives from Barclays Capital, Bear Stearns, Credit Suisse, Goldman Sachs and Fourthcreek Capital Management had to say on the topic.

My question is: How fast is fast enough? The industry has seen execution latency drop from the hundreds of milliseconds down to the high tens of milliseconds and now the low tens of milliseconds, but that isn't fast
