In a column I wrote about a year ago, I posed the question of whether black boxes would eventually replace traders. In the year since, the black box has been cracked opened and the consequences will be far more reaching than Pandora's for securities firms.

I suggested last year that traders and others would be wise to look over their shoulders. In retrospect, I should have been more precise: If you're involved in low-level transactions, an algorithm probably will take your job on the front lines
