Open Source Cuts Hotspot FX Latency

It now takes an order an average of 5 milliseconds to travel through the revamped platform, down from 15 milliseconds, according to Paul Reidy, director and head of technology for Hotspot FX.

In January, Hotspot FX officials made the decision to replace their existing version 4.4 FIX gateway, which was based on a commercial package, with open-source Java-based QuickFIX/J FIX engine.

Dubbed FIXproxy, the new gateway went into production in early May, according to Reidy. Hotspot FX started moving
