Exchanges: Cross-Asset Will Trump Mergers

CHICAGO—The consolidation race among the major exchanges is far from over, but cross-asset trading across single platforms might take precedence over exchange mergers moving forward, according to the CEOs of several exchanges.

The good news for the major exchanges is "that our business keeps growing faster than demands for consolidation," says William Brodsky, chairman and CEO of the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE), who spoke on a panel of exchange CEOs at the Futures Industry Association's
