Study: Legacy Systems, Decentralization Stunt Growth

Some 125 respondents in Europe, Asia, and North America—spanning fund managers, pension funds, asset managers, and insurers—participated in the study, which was supervised by New York University Stern School of Business professor and StrategyLab head Ingo Walter.

The study finds that 56 percent of firms using legacy systems plan to increase IT budget, compared to only 40 percent of those using state-of-the-art platforms. Legacy respondents also report greater systems fragmentation: Those running
