The reason for the excitement about Symphony, winner of this year's best sell-side newcomer award, is because it was addressing a massive industry-wide challenge: providing a way to communicate efficiently, and uniting communication with content and a directory for industry professionals.

That last part of the Symphony service was added in December, when Symphony acquired Markit's chat assets. The purchase provided users with a directory for managing contacts across the financial services
