Fidelity Investments was set to begin what may have been the most time consuming phase of its Year 2000 upgrade, tracking down the desktop applications and files on more than 25,000 personal computers at Fidelity offices around the world. At the time, the giant of the mutual fund industry was ahead of schedule for testing and fixing its mainframe, midrange and client/server applications (June 5, 1998).
