As exchanges look to deliver higher rates of return, "It's not just about the core exchange business anymore. It's much broader," said Alex Kramm, senior equity research analyst at UBS. Kramm told delegates that the expansion of many exchanges into the index space, as well as efforts to identify "what data is out there that they can package differently for some folks to generate alpha," is a signal of the product and services innovation taking place.
