NewsML Struggles Toward Adoption

NewsML, the XML-based standard designed to facilitate the production and distribution of news, is facing adoption challenges even though it has won wider recognition.

NewsML is a complex standard and many companies are still unfamiliar with XML itself, says Michael Steidl, managing director of the International Press Telecommunications Council (IPTC), which introduced NewsML. As a result, "We are looking to streamline NewsML" to help encourage adoption, Steidl says.

The changes to NewsML will
