The potentially game-changing "barcode" for financial market participants-the 20-digit legal entity identifier (LEI) code-is making good progress, say its proponents. But an industry study reflects criticism that the initiative faces significant issues over data quality and utility.

Stephan Wolf, appointed CEO of the Global LEI Foundation (GLEIF) in October, told a panel at the recent North American Financial Information Summit (NAFIS) in New York that the body is now properly established.
