Preparing for Central Clearing

Following the financial crisis, regulators have focused on ways to improve transparency and reduce risk in financial markets, and central over-the-counter clearing has regularly been mentioned as part of the solution. The US Treasury last year published Financial Regulatory Reform: A New Foundation, where it was proposed to regulate the OTC derivatives market, imposing record-keeping and reporting requirements and reducing systemic risk "by requiring all standardized OTC derivative transactions
