Vendors Expected to Move to Open Standards as European Commission Pushes for Change

BRUSSELS - Discussions on how vendors may have to move to open standards are increasing after the European Commission (EC) released a statement of objections against Standard & Poor's on November 19, stating it has infringed Article 82 of the EC Treaty by abusing its dominant position, requiring financial institutions and information service providers (ISPs) to pay licensing fees for the use of Cusip-based International Securities Identification Numbers (ISINs) in their own databases.
