Majority of hedge fund assets now from institutional investors

According to research carried out by the Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA), the majority of all assets under management by hedge funds and funds of hedge funds globally are from institutional investors. AIMA also reports that 30% of those assets now come from pension funds. The AIMA research defines institutional investors as pension funds, university endowments, foundations and governmental authorities. The figures are based on consultation with the Association's members
