Editor’s letter: What have we done to deserve this?

The programme, which had got off to a somewhat genteel start at Villa Olmo, the most prestigious of Como's palaces, quickly went downhill. Drinks, canapés, opera, synchronised swimming nymphs (seriously) and the Villa's private art collection, were accompanied by the mother of all thunder storms, which, ordinarily wouldn't have posed too much of a problem.
