The move is the vendor's first foray into the options market, driven by increased options trading by retail investors. "As options are becoming more popular with retail investors and are becoming a bigger part of mainstream retail portfolios, we need to address that space," says Morningstar derivatives strategist Philip Guziec.
Guziec says the vendor's next step will be to aggregate the options data into Morningstar's volatility index, an open-interest-weighted average of implied volatility,
