Datacenter and hosting provider Equinix has acquired space close to Melbourne's business district to construct its first IBX datacenter in the city, in addition to its three existing facilities in Sydney, in response to demand for co-location and datacenter space in the city.

The Equinix ME1 datacenter will ultimately provide capacity of 1,500 cabinets, with the first phase─comprising 375 cabinets─is scheduled to go live in the fourth quarter of this year.
