Nasdaq Partners Catelas for Comms Surveillance

Smarts Broker now allows for a deeper, more automated view of behavioral risk through the integration.

Nasdaq OMX will integrate technology from surveillance vendor Catelas with its Smarts Broker platform, offering users the ability to monitor communications in a relational and visualized manner.

Catelas uses a blend of behavioral mechanics and algorithmic associative techniques to monitor communications flow between various platforms, including instant messaging (IM), Bloomberg chat and e-mail. Smarts Broker clients will be able to take the addition as an integrated offering with, or an additional component to, the product.

Visualizations allow compliance analysts to determine linkage between trading activity and relationships between parties, identifying strong communicative patterns and building a network of persons that can be tied to an alert event.

"Catelas's patented relationship and behavioral algorithms automatically uncover and assess the relationships and networks that underpin how business gets done," says Eddie Cogan, founder and CEO at Catelas. "This allows the analyst unprecedented visibility across email, IM, chat rooms and social media, quickly isolating key communications, allowing the analyst to cover more ground in considerably less time."
