US regulators consider hedge fund ‘retailisation’

NEW YORK -- The growing appeal of hedge funds as alternative investment vehicles in the US has prompted the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and US Congress to consider whether new regulations are needed to protect retail investors from the inherent risks associated with such entities.

The SEC held a roundtable discussion on May 14 and 15 on the issue, and the US House Financial Services Committee conducted a hearing on May 22, The Long and Short of Hedge Funds: Effects of Strategies
