Financial Stability Institute Names New Chair
Fernando Lozano succeeds Josef Tošovský, who held the role for 16 years
The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) has named Fernando Restoy Lozano as chair of the Financial Stability Institute (FSI). The BIS founded the FSI jointly with the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision in 1999, to promote financial standards and practices globally and provide financial industry supervisory agencies with information on products, practices and techniques.
Lozano will begin his role January 1, succeeding Josef Tošovský, who is retiring after serving as chair of FSI since 2000. Lozano is deputy governor of the Bank of Spain, a role he began in 2012. He has held senior positions at the bank since 1991. Lozano has also served as a commissioner of the Spanish Securities and Markets Commission and on the board of the Single Supervisory Mechanism of the European Central Bank.
As chair of FSI, Lozano will be responsible for its strategic direction and the quality of its services.
