Smith will head GSET in the Asia-Pacific marketplace

Smith, who was formerly the head of execution trading in APAC for Citigroup, will oversee the electronic trading platform efforts and further enhance Goldman's execution capabilities, according to an internal memo.

"We have been building out our electronic trading platform in Asia, tripling the number of clients on the algorithmic customization platform and adding access to three new markets in the past year," notes Canute Dalmasse, head of execution services for Goldman Sachs in Asia Pacific, in the memo. "Investing in our electronic trading platform has been core to our equities strategy in Asia. We expect Ian's leadership to further enhance our execution capabilities for clients investing in the region."
