Initiative overview—LUSID

The initiative that won this category entailed FINBOURNE Technology delivering an automated data operations platform for London-based Omba Advisory & Investments, replacing various manual processes across 15-plus custodians and thousands of client portfolios with a bitemporal, reconciled investment book of record (IBOR). Significantly, the platform now underpins Omba’s artificial intelligence integration strategy.

The premise

Omba needed to scale a lean operation across a complex, multi-custodian estate without adding head count. Manual morning processes, variable custodian data quality and a hard ceiling on straight-through processing made growth impossible without a governed, automated data foundation.

We knew that, if we were going to scale, we needed to have a very firm grip on our data. Without an automated solution, achieving accurate portfolio analysis, trading and reporting would be impossible.
David Pierson, Co-founder, Omba Advisory & Investments

Measurables

Morning data operations are now fully automated across Omba’s 15-plus custodians, while monthly reporting has been reduced from 10–12 hours to near full automation. Omba’s portfolio rebalancing cycle has been compressed to one or two days—thousands of portfolios and 1.2 million positions are reconciled on a live, bitemporal IBOR.

Future objectives

Omba is currently integrating AI and large language model (LLM) capabilities directly into the IBOR, enabled by FINBOURNE’s financial operating layer. The governed, bitemporal data foundation provides the audit trail and entitlement controls that AI workflows require to operate reliably in a production environment.

Omba proves what a governed data foundation unlocks. When every position is reconciled, versioned and auditable, firms can automate operations and build AI on top of data they actually trust. That journey from manual to automated to AI-ready is what we exist to enable.

Why FINBOURNE Technology won

FINBOURNE Technology wins this category on the back of a data operations initiative that has transformed how Omba Advisory & Investments manages data across a complex, multi-custodian environment. Faced with the challenge of scaling a lean operation without wanting to add head count, Omba needed to replace manual processes with a governed, automated platform capable of supporting thousands of client portfolios.

At the heart of the initiative is FINBOURNE’s outstanding LUSID offering: a single, integrated platform designed to connect buy-side firms’ front, middle and back offices, supporting a range of functions, including IBOR, accounting book of record, portfolio management, order management and compliance. The result of the implementation means that Omba now has a reconciled, bitemporal IBOR automating various processes across more than 15 custodians. Morning data operations are now fully automated, while monthly reporting has been significantly reduced from 10–12 hours to near-full automation. The impact is equally visible when it comes to portfolio rebalancing, with cycles compressed to one or two days across thousands of portfolios and 1.2 million positions.

The significance of the project extends beyond operational efficiency. By creating a versioned, reconciled and auditable data foundation, FINBOURNE has provided Omba with the infrastructure required to further its AI strategy, with LLM capabilities now being integrated directly into the IBOR. The combination of automation, governance and a production-ready foundation for AI demonstrates how enterprise data management can move from an operational constraint to an enabler of business growth and innovation.
