PRODUCTS & VENDORS

NEW YORK--At a press conference in New York last week, Compaq Computer announced its intention to acquire Digital Equipment Corporation for $9.6 billion. The acquisition may turn out to be a major turning point for Compaq's technology offerings in the financial trading market.

The acquisition, touted as the largest in the history of the computer industry, will quickly make Compaq the world's second-largest computer company. It also gives Compaq a chance to break into the enterprise market.
