Buy-Side Technology Awards 2014: Best Buy-Side Performance Measurement and Attribution Product—BI-SAM
One of the reasons why Paris-based BI-SAM has been regarded as the go-to vendor when it comes to calculating and attributing performance for equity and fixed-income portfolios—and also for the calculation of ex-post risk, absolute and relative—is because of the integrity and quality of the data that flows into its clients’ trading environments, which is paramount when measuring performance.
As buy-side business processes become more complex, solutions that enable firms to scale their operations by streamlining their processes and reducing their technology costs are likely to prove popular, as they allow asset managers to focus on their core competencies.
BI-SAM’s flagship offering, B-One, is a performance, attribution, risk and reporting platform, designed to streamline investment processes by integrating middle- and back-office systems, by using a single data source across all of its modules in order to help improve clients’ performance measurement, data management, operational risk and attribution, client reporting, and composite management and GIPS compliance activities. In September, BI-SAM revealed that its B-One performance calculation engine was used to underpin the Broadridge Investment Management Solutions Performance Reporting platform, providing complete performance reporting and absolute attribution analysis across multiple asset classes. The product includes time-weighted returns at multiple levels, internal rates of return at the fund level, benchmark comparisons, and market segment decomposition.
This year marks the start of a new phase for BI-SAM: It recently named William Haney as CEO, and announced plans for a number of acquisitions in the coming months, in addition to expanding its research and development (R&D) capabilities, which includes the creation of an additional dedicated R&D facility in Paris.
The past few years have been good for BI-SAM in terms of clients wins, with 10 of the world’s 40 largest asset managers by assets under management now using B-One.
