BST Awards 2022: Best buy-side risk management product—Numerix
Product: Oneview
Overview
All risk analytics, P&L, positions and even shadow net-asset value (NAV) calculations are updated in real time within Oneview as market data streams into the system, updating continuously with each change in market prices. These analytics can be especially valuable to buy-side traders and portfolio managers for pre-trade decision-support and risk management in fast-moving markets.
“The ability to manage market risk and credit risk in a single platform for crypto and fiat currencies, along with connectivity to our principal trade aggregator, allowed us to quickly adhere to trading, risk and regulatory needs on a 24/7 basis.”
What problem does it address?
Oneview is designed to allow its buy-side clients to trade any product in the global markets, thereby expanding their investment universe so that they can capture alpha wherever it exists.
Secret sauce
Most risk management systems are strong in a few asset classes, but weak in others. Oneview, which features Numerix’s CrossAsset pricing library, covers all asset classes: fixed income/rates, FX, equity, credit, commodities, inflation, crypto, and hybrids. This enables clients to trade any instrument in the global markets and capture alpha wherever they find it, which is especially valuable to certain types of buy-side firms such as global macro hedge funds.
Recent milestones
- Expanded and improved instrument support including open repos, overdraft loans and commodity futures spread options.
- Richer trade lifecycle support and optimized trade entry defaulting including FX terminations, a new Python-driven interface allowing support to encode custom default logic, and better user control of custom blotter layouts.
- Optimized position-generation logic for reduced hardware size requirements and increased speed, and improved application start-up times.
“At Numerix, we are proud of our deep analytical and quantitative heritage going back to our earliest days of developing models for the calibration, pricing, hedging, and risk management of exotic derivatives. As mathematical models are the foundation of finance, we pride ourselves on our analytically intensive software solutions. Our reputation as the premier quant shop has now greatly expanded to a provider of next-generation capital markets solutions and applications. Today, our real-time trading and risk management platform, Oneview, provides a holistic, multi-dimensional view of a firm’s derivatives business, and of course, is built on the industry’s best analytics.”
Steven O’Hanlon, CEO and president, Numerix
Future objectives
- Development of a standardized portfolio analysis of risk (Span) margin calculator.
- Performance and UX upgrades.
- Greater API access.
Why they won
For buy-side firms, having up-to-the-minute, accurate and transparent position-level information is critical when it comes to making investment decisions. That is Numerix Oneview’s bread and butter, which, when added to its ability to support literally every asset class (including crypto) from a trading perspective, make it a compelling proposition for both traditional and alternative asset managers.
