Safety in numbers

Following the Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers debacles last year, counterparty and operational risk mitigation have been the strongest drivers spurring hedge funds into establishing relationships with more than a single prime broker. But while effective counterparty risk management and having more than one prime broker compete for one's business has its benefits, the pain of setting up those additional relationships from a technology and operational perspective should not be underestimated.
