The sustainability of a hedge fund often depends on its ability to identify new trading opportunities in an increasingly crowded, competitive market. Funds ‘trawl’ markets, industries, asset classes, countries, news wires and sometimes even individual securities to get a competitive advantage, but crucially once an opportunity has been identified – like credit default swaps, for instance – they need the technology to support their strategies.
