The California Public Employees Retirement System finished the first stage of overhauling its personal computers for Year 2000 compliance. CalPERS had begun its Year 2000 program two years earlier. In 1998, it was estimated that the giant pension plan would spend more than $7 million on Y2K bug fixes (March 13, 1998).
