Who Owns the Data?


The issue of distributing derived data confronted both users and vendors at last week’s IMD Europe 2003 conference. (Missed it? Turn to page 6 and check www.insidemarketdata.com for the Webcast.)

Derived data is simply modified data that is based on another set of data. Usually the original data is sourced from a third-party vendor, most often Reuters or another major provider, and is then changed in some way by the user. That’s fine. Problems arise when the user wants to distribute that
