Reuters instituted a major organizational shakeup that saw the old guard of former journalists who were running the company for years kicked out or upstairs in favor of a younger generation. Insiders saw the change as an effective shift of power for Reuters Information from the London headquarters into the hands of the US. This reorganization was seen by many insiders as a much "bigger deal" than the 1999 overhaul because of the significant shift of power.
