AFPIC 2014: Data Managers Highlight Need for Standards, Compliance

Lack of contract standards hinders firms' ability to switch to cheaper providers, panelists say.


Tom Etheridge, managing director at market data consultancy Jordan & Jordan told delegates that, as well as the shift away from human consumption of data towards computational consumption, a key trend in the US and Europe is the adoption of lower-cost substitutions for higher-cost data, such as using Nasdaq's Basic Feed as an alternative to the US consolidated tapes.

However, the lack of standardization between different data providers' contracts means the internal cost of changing data sources
